A Day In The Life

I’m beginning to understand that, in general, Americans think that if they don’t go out of their way to use the things that the Bill of Rights guarantees someone is going to take them away. I look at the gun crazed people walking with assault rifles specifically to scare the hell out of people. Many say that their right to own a gun is more important than the lives of the thousands of children that have dies in accidental shootings.

There are an incredible number of assholes that say whatever comes to their mind, ignoring how they may hurt others, simply because they have free speech. Racial slurs, references to the LGBT community, the ignorance of calling a person a ret***, all used to insult others without even considering that the only reason it seems ok to them is because they don’t belong to that group.

Then there’s standing on a street corner shouting about their religion or going to courts to curtail the freedoms of others because of freedom of religion, without allowing the same freedom for anyone of a different religion I might add. An atheist or Islamic group doing the same thing would be subject to attacks from the people that were there the day before shouting about Jesus.

In fact, the only right that I see them not embracing is the most important one of all.

The right to vote.

Half of the population doesn’t vote and of those that do, the vast majority are single issue voters which allows the people that win ignore most of the things that would make the population better off.

There’s a section of the old Twilight Zone movie called “Time Out” where a man is forced to live for a short time in the lives of those that his bigoted attitude was focused upon. I wish that everyone would have to do the same so that they could see a piece of the lives that others face daily.
