The Jenny McCarthy-Religious Stupidity has struck again. One hundred kilometers east of Vancouver BC is the town of Chilliwack and it is the current location of a fairly major outbreak of the measles. The outbreak began with the infection of two children within the Mount Cheam Christian School which is located in the centre of a religious community with a traditionally low immunization rate. The virus began it’s burn through the school’s enrollment of 361 until over 100 of the children were infected but it has not stopped there. There are now dozens of people in the general population that are now infected and one child has been admitted to hospital.
The accusations will fly and the anti-vaxxers will come out of the woodwork but I have a more pressing concern.
This small community do not subscribe to western medicine so I am forced to wonder how many of the original group of infected children should have been taken to the hospital and if and succumb to the disease and it’s complications, would we ever even know about it?
